The initiatives supported by citizens range from the leisure centre to the skate park and dragon boating. Community is everything when it comes to singing in choirs and making music. But hiking, fishing and gardening are also simply more fun together. You can get involved or just enjoy – you are always welcome.
The youth leisure centre Sellin is a facility of the municipality of Sellin, whose offers are carried out by the „Kinder-, Jugend- und Freizeitzentrum Sellin e. V.“. Children and young people up to the age of 18 can spend their free time there with other young people. During the summer months, the centre is stationed at the Südstrand-Treff directly at the Baltic Sea. All offers are also available to holiday guests.
Children and young people can play billiards, table tennis or darts, use the computer, paint or write. Creative courses such as silk painting or cooking are also offered. One can play with the model railway or learn how to care for an aquarium. Attractive prizes are awarded in sports tournaments and several times a year the young people celebrate their festivals.

The Baltic fanfares mainly use natural trumpets. The individual notes are modulated only with the lips. Musically interested people from the age of 8 can make music there under the direction of Michael Czechan. As a section of the „Kinder-, Jugend und Freizeitzentrum Sellin e.V.“, the association is free of charge. It presents the Baltic seaside resort at events and also gives concerts in other regions or even in Canada and takes part in parades and festivals.
Rehearsals and training camps
Currently, eight adults and almost 30 children and youths between the ages of 8 and 14 are active in the association and meet twice a week to rehearse with the B/Es fanfares, marching drums and snare drums („Tom Toms“). In addition, training camps are also held for exchange with international partners, as well as barbecues, hiking days or bicycle tours. The association finances itself through performances and sponsorships.

The Sellin Folk Choir was founded in 1984. Currently, 22 women and eight men sing there under the direction of the musician Manfred Heidtmann, mostly with soprano and alto voices as well as one male voice in three parts. The repertoire consists of German and international folk songs, sacred songs, songs by well-known composers, maritime songs and, last but not least, a large number of Low German songs.
The choir is a popular guest
The choir accompanies the community life in the Baltic Sea resort throughout the year and performs in the region. It is invited to festivals and markets as well as to folklore events. Especially during Advent, the choir is a popular guest at Christmas celebrations, where it performs its wide repertoire of winter and Christmas songs. In addition to singing together, the choir community organises celebrations, excursions and other community experiences.

Non-binding participation for newcomers possible at any time
The ASV Möve e.V. operates its own jetty in Sellin with 68 moorings, 28 of which are for small boats and 40 for somewhat larger boats. The club meets for joint fishing trips, including garfish fishing and autumn and winter fishing. A fishing tournament is also organised. The craning in and out of the boats and work on the jetty are carried out as joint activities. The association has existed since 1960, but it was newly founded in 1990, and the chairman is Maik Ahrend.

Dragon boats are long open paddle boats originally from China. Sitting in pairs on benches, the paddlers move the boat with paddles to the beat of a drum. The Sellin dragon boaters are organised in the „CJD Garz Gesundheitssportverein e.V.“. The training in two boats for 20 paddlers each takes place weekly at the slipway in Sellin harbour and is led by captain Olaf Westphal. Beginners can drop in one hour before the training starts.

The association was founded in 2002 to bring together and advance the skate scene on Rügen. The self-built Skatepark Rügen on the B 196 between Baabe and Sellin (above the ALDI) is a meeting place for the members of the association and for numerous holidaymakers who visit us every year from all parts of Germany. It’s always about the fun of skateboarding, regardless of how well someone rides or where they come from. Respect, tolerance and cohesion are basic requirements for club life!
Workshops and Board Battle
The association Rügen rollt! e.V. organises workshops, trips and competitions such as the „Baltic Brett Battle“ (BBB). The BBB is the only skateboard championship on the Baltic Sea and is organised by club members on a voluntary basis. Around 200 skateboarders from all over Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and beyond come to the island of Rügen for this event.

The Wanderfreunde Sellin-Baabe-Göhren Rügen hike for the joy of the countryside, people and nature, to cultivate sociability and at the same time to do something for one’s health. The members meet at least once a month for hiking together or for other social activities. New members of the association, which was founded in 1990, are always welcome.
IVV-Circular hiking trails
Since 1999, the hiking friends have been operating the IVV circular hiking trail Southeast Rügen with five sections and a total length of 121 km. In May 2006, a second, touristically significant hiking trail was added with the 13 km long permanent IVV hiking trail „Experience Rügen Chalk“. The hiking friends are members of the German Volkssportverband DVV in the International Volkssportverband (IVV) and belong to the DVV regional association SH/HH/MV.
