Sellin Christmas Market on Rügen
The Christmas market in Sellin on Rügen is held every year in December. The event is held at the premises of the Tourism Administration Service (“Kurverwaltung”) in the building that previously housed the town’s thermal baths. Visitors can look forward to a festive atmosphere full of activities for children, stands and stalls with selected gift items, a merry-go-round, music to put you in the Christmas mood and culinary delicacies.
A festive atmosphere at the Sellin Tourism Administration Office
On the occasion of this special event, the historic building transforms into a winter wonderland full of Christmas decorations together with its intimate courtyard and the neighbouring “Friedensberg” spa park. Guests are enchanted by the winter setting as they enjoy festive live music on the open-air stage by the Kurverwaltung building.
Sellin Christmas Market is also a children’s paradise
When visiting Sellin Christmas Market, children can always look forward to a multitude of different activities that will get them even more excited about the Christmas period. Some of the market’s main attractions include the merry-go-round run by the Nachtigall family of fairground entertainers, a petting zoo organised by the Hof Viervitz riding school and the craft area provided by Sellin’s day-care centres. Another major highlight for children is the opportunity to meet Father Christmas. In fact, we recommend that our young visitors already start to think about telling Santa what they want for Christmas.
Exclusive gifts from the local region
Anyone who hasn’t yet finished their Christmas shopping is sure to find the ideal gifts at Sellin Christmas Market, where attractively decorated stands offer exclusive gift items such as natural products, cosmetics, children’s books and much more. Local producers attend the market in person to discuss the art of their trade with visitors. The “Kolonial-Stübchen” stand not only serves apple and whisky punch, but also offers attractive decorative items from all over the world, unusual tea and coffee varieties, spices and chocolate.
Hot and tasty delicacies from Sellin’s restaurateurs
What would a Christmas market be without a suitable range of culinary offerings? At Sellin Christmas Market, the Böhmisches Gasthaus, Hotel Bernstein, Jagdschule and Wald Hotel spoil guests with specialities such as roast pork with crackling, potato pancakes and mushrooms in breadcrumbs. These tasty treats can be washed down with mulled wine with Becherovka liqueur, which is made over an open fire and also known as a “Heiße Lawine” (Hot Landslide), “Jagertee” tea with rum and spices, and non-alcoholic “Kinderpunsch” fruit punch. On top of all this, the event in Sellin also, of course, offers the essential Christmas market delicacy: toasted candied almonds.
