The narrow-gauge railway has been steaming through the south-east of the island of Rügen for more than one hundred years. It takes its passengers to Baabe, Putbus or Binz. But actually the journey is the destination, because this trip is an excursion into serenity. The „Rasende Roland“ decelerates and is a relaxing way to be on the move.
Railway fans love it. The pounding and rattling, the tooting and the white clouds that always rise from the chimney when fresh coal is laid. As spa traffic increased, an extensive network of narrow-gauge railways was built on the island of Rügen as early as 1895, some of which are still in operation today. According to the timetable, the Rügensche BäderBahn (RüBB) runs from Göhren via Baabe, Sellin, Granitz, Binz, Putbus to Lauterbach – in the summer season also to the destination Lauterbach Mole.
Just like back then, the Rügen Baths Railway is pulled by a steam locomotive. It runs on a track gauge of only 750 mm and covers 30 kilometres per hour. A dining car and the open observation car make the excursion even more attractive. In summer, trips are also offered in the evening hours. With a day ticket, you can get on and off as often as you like. With the „Water & Steam“ combination ticket, passengers can transfer from the train to an excursion boat.
