Sellin Pier Festival
Crazy days with the „Grande Dame“ of Rügen spa architecture

Every year at the end of July Sellin pier is celebrated with the Pier Festival. On the wooden planks and on Sellin beach at her feet there are music, comedy and culinary delights inviting for two days of celebration. Sellin citizens meet their guests at dances and concerts and together they enjoy the location and the summer. Children enjoy themselves at putting on make up, juggling or playing with the ball cannon. Seated in a beach wicker chair, guests are being taken on a maritime trip by wind orchestras. In the evening everybody dances open air when bands and pop stars appear on the especially built up stage.

The more than 340 m long wooden pier was rebuilt in 1998 after the model of 1927.  It is the only pier on Rügen still appearing in its historical spa architecture. An escalator and the so called “stairways to heaven” (Himmelsleiter) lead down to it from Wilhelmstraße. On the pier one may marry, hold celebrations or listen to the talented interpreters of the classic music festival “Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”.
