Sea bridge of Sellin – Culinary experience, weddings and other celebrations revive the legend to a new life

The most beautiful celebration of a lifetime is the wedding. And where else should it best be hold than on the romantic and playful sea bridge, close to the lyrical openness of the sea. In Balticsaal (Baltic Hall) of the sea bridge the authority of the region Mönchgut-Granitz has installed a registry office. If the officer marries the loving couple alone with them or together with other wedding guests, the Baltic sea becomes a witness.  Before the most inspiring „Yes“ of life couples may enjoy some relaxing days by the sea, because all necessary preparations may be done by the sea bridge’s own wedding service – to order a wedding coach and arrange the church wedding, order music according to the guests wishes, prepare a reception, flowers and decoration or make a date with the hairdresser or photographer. With the help of the banquet folder, which may also be sent, future couples relish to prepare on their celebration day.

Marrying on the sea bridge you may also look forward the perfect care by the banquet manageress of the sea bridge. She takes care for almost everything: the menu from restaurant Palmengarten, the matching music and menu and table cards for the guests. With her you may also book rooms for the couple or the wedding guests.

Not just the pride of the Sellin citizens of their beautiful sea bridge makes it a symbol of the isle of Rügen. Together with the chalk cliff Königsstuhl it represents as no other symbol on Germany`s most beautiful island the unique combination of art and nature, of summer holidays with a mundane spa living – of enjoyment and relaxation. When it was built in 1906 at the high tide of spa architecture nobody could know that it would be confronted with several hardships. Several times it was destroyed by storm and ice and finally in 1978 it was torn down being in desolate conditions. Not before the Berlin wall came down its renaissance became possible.

In 1998 it was rebuilt after original plans from 1927. today it is again an inspiration for magnificent celebrations by the sea. There are events and concerts, culture and ambitious gastronomy. By the daily cruising service to the other spa resort the golden 1920s are revived. Cabaret and rock`n roll, elegant dances in the Balticsaal and culinary experiences are part of the programme. In two pavilions on the beach and directly on the landing bridge guests are also served.

With the concept of bringing together culture and gastronomy the architectural gem has become a real Gesamtkunstwerk – just to experience this, a short trip to one of the tremendous events above the sea is worthwhile. When the band plays in Balticsaal even one local guest remembers the golden years, when he danced on the sea bridge until morning dawned. „We visit the party“ – in Sellin one goes there using the „heavenly staircase“ called stairs from the high cliff to the Baltic sea. Brightly lit like a fairy tale castle the sea bridge expects ist guests. An elegant  dinner, having another drink in the bar and strolling out onto the sea – dreaming of faraway places behind the horizon or of future events. Much later and tired of dancing the elevator brings us back up to Wilhelmstraße and we are back in reality – if we didn’t forget our silver slipper.
