Europe’s biggest diving gondola is in Sellin

Europas größte Tauchgondel steht auf Rügen an der Seebrücke Sellin It looks like a Hollywood film requisite, the „diving gondola“ lying at the sea Sellin bridge since summer 2008. Partly rocket, partly birds house invites all visitors who do not dive themselves but love to venture out the fascinating underwater worlds of the Baltic sea without getting one’s feet wet. Although the gondola dives up to 4 m into the deep sea and rests just 1 m above the bottom of the sea, pressure load remains the same as at land because the gondola is constructed pressure-resistant. Being submerged you learn interesting facts about the Baltic sea and animals and plants – even to be watched if sight and season are apt, in front of the windows. A further window to the world of seas is the 3D-underwater film about the Baltic sea. The impressing film present the largest brackish water of the earth and its inhabitants. Little fantasy is needed to imagine that the gray seal in the film is passing right in front of the gondola’s window. Fish normally just to be found  on Rügen fish restaurants menus like cod and herring are to be watched here as living beings. Moon jellyfish, tiny planktons, fast shrimps and majestic flatfish draw along sea weed and sandy ground. From the Baltic Sea to the Great Barrier Reef and to the Bahamas goes the journey, when a further 3D-film impressively illustrates the importance of coral reefs for the whole planet.

November to April: 11.00-16.00 (Mo, Tue closing days), May, September, October: 10.00-18.00, June to August: 10.00-21.00; Opened maximum until break of dusk, outage days are possible depending on current weather conditions. (storm, ice). A diving trip takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Minimum number of participants 6 persons, maximum 30 persons.Groups please pre-register!
